Schafer Gear Set to Expand. People.

With over $6,000,000 in investments over the past two years, Schafer Gear is also expanding its workforce.
Overall economic conditions and lower demands had forced the company to reduce its work force on the production floor. But, all through the downturn Schafer Gear upheld its core capabilities by maintaining a full complement of technical, production and customer service staff. This strategic decision allowed Schafer to aggressively seek new customers and expand market penetration. As a result, Schafer is now adding qualified operators and key management positions in the South Bend plant. The company is currently seeking 12 to 15 qualified machine operators for turning, hobbing, gear cutting, gear grinding and in support areas. Plans also include hiring a quality assurance manager and a production shift supervisor. Hiring at other locations will begin later this year after initial engineering work has been completed.
